I had a lovely new client the other day, and she asked me about the water that we use during facials at This Magic Life, after reading about our philosophy on line. I realized that the amount of information I excitedly wanted to share with her may also be a good blog post, so here it is!
We are really fortunate to be working in San Francisco, and have some of the most lovely water in California flowing through our pipes! So we are already ahead of the game with being able to offer facials with steam and water for cleanses that is above average. However, we do not only rely on this wonderful water alone. Depending on the client's skin type and desired goals, we add other things to the water we use during our facials.
One thing that we always add is extra minerals. We use Eidon Ionic Minerals in our water, so we know that your skin is getting an extra boost. What are "ionic minerals", you may wonder? The word "ionic", when used to describe a mineral element, means that the particle in the solution is separate and individual (an atom) and that the particle has either a positive or negative charge. The charge indicates that there is an incomplete outer electron shell giving the atom the property of being able to bond to other elements.
The body readily absorbs elements in their ionic state. These minerals are pure and odorless liquid that has superior bio-availability. Ionic minerals are individual elements with an electrical charge in a liquid medium-in this case water. Your body has to do virtually nothing to process or break down these elements to prepare them for absorption. This is in comparison to obtaining your minerals in more complex and therefore more tightly bound forms.
We add ionic minerals to our water with the goal of promoting greater skin health. Not only are our skin care products clean and organic, we want to make sure that we remove any product with water that also feeds your skin.
Depending on your skin type, we may also use various herbs in our water. For example, on clients with sensitive skin, we may use camomile flowers or oatmeal in the water for an extra calming effect to their skin condition.
Of course, we do a lengthy intake prior to all sessions to make sure that there are no other allergies or sensitivities that may be exacerbated by the herbs and plants we could add to the water. So sometimes, we just use plain water on our clients who could have a reaction to plants, flowers or herbs we would use. It depends on what you and your Skin Care Therapist decide is the best treatment plan for you.
We will also add flower essences to the water if that is something your skin care tolerate. Flower essences are liquid extracts that are believed to work on us energetically. They are promoted for use in supporting emotional well-being, soul development, and mind-body health. They are part of an emerging field of subtle energy medicine, which also includes homeopathy, acupuncture, color therapy, therapeutic touch and similar modalities. We like to use flower essences created by the Flower Essence Society, Alaskan Flower Essences and Findhorn Flower Essences. We appreciate their philosophies, and the fact that they are all small companies that cultivate all of the flowers, plants and minerals that they use in their essences.
In some instances, we add essential oils to our water. Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts. They are extracted through careful steam distillation, resin tapping, and cold pressing. These oils stimulate olfactory receptors and activate regions in the brain’s limbic system associated with memory, emotion, and state of mind. Pure essential oils are far more powerful than the botanicals from which they come due to their concentration, so we are very selective in when we use them in our water. We like to use essential oils from Young Living and the Flower Essence Society.
We love learning about all of the various natural options there are out there and bringing them into our facials. We want our services to enhance your skin care and experience during your treatment. All of the things we use in the water are also available for further research or purchase in our shop. Feel free to come in and experience our various products and learn more about them!
